Spiderman 3D

God reveals himself and His will during the most unexpected times… One thing He’s been teaching me is to accept my femininity and to find strength in the femininity. He’s also already revealed that I’m called back to America and will have a family, but I didn’t want to accept it because it wasn’t part of my plan. I was going to be a missionary in a far off country for awhile alone and happy. Maybe married if God blessed me in that way, but no family. I’ve seen what havoc they can wreak. WELL, I went to see Spiderman today in the theater! Woohoo! I...

I need you for the ups and downs

Each night when you set foot on Bangla Road you really don’t know what to expect…. when you combine adults, alcohol, immorality and lots of broken hearts you can imagine how much chaos can and does ensue. We have been here for a few weeks and we have seen the rollercoaster that you can walk into.               Last thursday we hit the plummet of the roller coaster. We hit walls where we had seen open doors so far. We were completely ignored by girls that had normally beckoned and...

Big Buddha and Spiritual Graves

I serve a living God.   So many of us have heard that our entire lives, but for me it hasn’t been until now that I’ve begun to unlock the true meaning of the statement. Yesterday our team went to the temple of the Big Buddha in Phuket. During the time that we all took pictures and soaked up the scenery, I just couldn’t shake the thought that I serve a living God. I don’t have to go bow at a statue for God to hear me, I don’t have to go to a temple with my shoulders and knees covered to hear the voice of my God.   Last night as I read one of my...

just you wait.

Well, the other night (last Thursday) just wasn’t what I would call “good.” I’ll just say it straight up without my usual metaphors or analogies. It was awful. My group went out for ministry. We walked all the way down Bangla just looking around and trying to get a feel for the night. Some nights here are more crazy than others. Some nights, there are a lot of middle-aged men; other nights there are a lot of teenagers and a lot of families. That night, it was all of the above. There isn’t really any way to explain the evening in words, which is...

A Journey of Unlearning

This has been a season of unlearning a lot of different types of things I already believed to be true or expected to be true.   For example, sharing a room with thirteen other girls is a lot more fun then it might sound. Cold showers are a welcomed thought after a long day either working on the land or cleaning and mopping and sweeping. Getting stared at all the time kind of makes me feel like a rockstar. And, believe it or not, it’s not as scary as I thought to live somewhere where I don’t speak the language.   (To date, the only words I can remember in Thai are...

Faithful to the End

Another week of ministry has passed, and I’ve experienced a whole heck of a lot this week. There’s been excitement and laughter. Passion for ministry and these women. Heartbreak over the things I’ve seen. Disappointment when a girl we’ve connected with backed out of hanging out with us. Exhaustion from hoeing dirt at the worksite. Amazing times of worship and intercession with the team. Rescuing my teammates from a dead cockroach and getting creeped out by the chirping of geckos in the bathroom. Missing home and people I love there. I think the overarching theme of...
