Big Buddha and Spiritual Graves

I serve a living God.

So many of us have heard that our entire lives, but for me it hasn’t been until now that I’ve begun to unlock the true meaning of the statement. Yesterday our team went to the temple of the Big Buddha in Phuket. During the time that we all took pictures and soaked up the scenery, I just couldn’t shake the thought that I serve a living God. I don’t have to go bow at a statue for God to hear me, I don’t have to go to a temple with my shoulders and knees covered to hear the voice of my God.

Last night as I read one of my favorite stories of the Bible, Lazarus being raised from the dead, the story took on a whole new meaning to me.

“Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if though hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee” John 11: 21 and 22

Martha wasn’t completely sure what Jesus could do yet she still found herself believing in His power through God the father. She hadn’t lost her faith, she knew that Jesus possessed the power of the LIVING God.

Buddha couldn’t have commanded a dead man to walk out of his own grave. Buddha couldn’t do that when he was alive and he certainly can’t now because he can’t even get out of his own grave! If that doesn’t get you excited then you need Jesus to come call you out of your own spiritual grave.

Shelby standing in front of the view at Big Buddha's temple. It's amazing how the statue of Buddha pales in comparison to God'a creation.

And here's the man himself.
