Eagerly Awaiting

The other day, I was listening to a podcast from Francis Chan and he asked a question that stuck with me: What do you want to be doing whenever Christ comes back?

Do I want to be watching some pointless movie that represents everything that I DON’T stand for? Do I want to be shopping, spending the money that I could just as easily give back to the church? Do I want to be reading a book that does nothing to further my relationship with God and that does nothing to strengthen my faith? I don’t know about you, but whenever Jesus Christ comes back to this earth to get His people, I want to be glorifying my God, not fulfilling my own selfish desires. I don’t want to miss it and I don’t want anyone that I cross paths with to miss it either, I want to do everything that I can to help them secure their place in the kingdom of Heaven. We are missing so many ministry opportunities every single day. The place where we go to get our hair washed every once in a while, the women are Buddhists, they speak fairly decent English; why not share the Gospel with them? That stranger that we randomly start talking to and asks what we are doing here, why not go deeper and tell them more about the reason why we are here, tell them about the loving God that we serve? I want to live my life declaring the glory of the Lord at every possible moment! So often we try to separate ministry from “real life”. Ministry needs to be a way of life. I don’t want to put God on the back burner whenever I’m trying to “relax”; I want God to be front and center in EVERY aspect of my life. I wish that I could say that it is all going to be different now, I am going to always be aware of ministry opportunities, but I can’t honestly say that. The truth is, it’s something that I am going to have to constantly work on, and I’m going to need help from the Lord in order to do this.

I guess the point of this blog is not only to share what is going on in my head, but also to issue a challenge. I want to challenge you to really think about what you want to be doing when Christ comes back and to always remember that you are here for a reason, to further God’s kingdom.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…” Philippians 3:20
