Freak Show

Thailand performs more sex change operations than any other country in the world.

Night after night on Bangla Road we walk into Soi Crocodile—the street dedicated to ladyboys (men who have changed their gender to female).

Usually we have to push our way through the crowd to get to the bars because there is always four or five ladyboys outside the street, dressed in elaborately decorated and revealing feather dresses that make them close to 8 feet tall. They are walking around all of the by-standing tourists, asking for 100 baht to take a picture with them.

And people are just gawking.

Like they have come to a freak show and these ladyboys are the main attraction.

It is absolutely sickening.

THESE ARE PEOPLE!

CREATED BY THE BREATH OF GOD WITH INHERANT WORTH AND DIGNITY.

And I guarantee you if Jesus had come today instead of 2,000 years ago, he wouldn’t be hanging out in church. He’d be out on Bangla Road with the ladyboys and the prostitutes. He’d be with the special needs kids and the homeless. He’d be with single moms and crack addicts. He’d be visiting jails and going to gay bars.

Jesus was always treating the “religious” people saying—how dare you elevate yourself and claim to have it all figured out. You think that because you follow some rules that you are saved…but YOU DON’T GET IT! I came for the sick not the healthy. I came to rescue those who recognize their inability to follow the rules & be good. I came to fulfill the law because you can’t. I am about a different kind of kingdom—one where the broken & tired & sinful & empty come and ARE SATISFIED.

Jesus is the answer for ALL people. Regardless of race, orientation, or status.

“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” Revelation 22:17

You don’t have to get your junk together to come to Jesus. You come to Jesus and he will take care of the rest!

May we see with his eyes, love with his heart, and speak his message of redemption.
