Stop, Hammer Time…U Can’t Touch This.

“Open my senses Jesus.” I prayed that prayer all summer. “Show me your heart. I want to see, hear, smell, and taste you.”  I forgot one sense though. Touch. Jesus has opened up the sense of touch to me and that was something I did not expect. He allows me to feel what people or objects are carrying (for example spirit of happiness, sadness, insecurity, etc). This doesn’t always happen, but it sometimes does. I can’t make this stuff up. It usually just hits me without me expecting it to come.   Touch….  The first time I...

Follow The Stars

I have been in Chiang Mai for a little over a week now and I love it. So far I have taught two English classes at a college, played with kids in the slums, met a family in the slums that invited a couple of us to their house, and I talked to a monk named Danny. Out of all those ministries so far, I feel most lead to the slums. We normally do one of these ministries during the day and three times a week we do bar outreach at night.  To make sense of my story that I am about to tell you, I need to throw a little bit of information at you first. On days that we do bar ministry only half...

Introducing our squad

Our squad arrived in Bangkok last Saturday night, and arrive in Chiang Mai Monday morning.  In addition to familiarizing ourselves with the ministry we're partnering with (Lighthouse in Action), we've been spending a lot of time getting to know each other.  So we thought we'd introduce our team to our friends and family so that you'd know who was blogging during the next three months. As a team we came up with three words to describe each person, so here they are! Our fearless leader Abby Dapron – Encouraging, cuddly, joyful 22, Missouri Instagram: abdapron...

Thailand really happened

How does one begin to write a blog about the last two months living overseas? Good Question. Its been three weeks since my team and I have said our "see you laters" in Atlanta airport and quite honestly, I have had a range of different emotions since I've been back. Seems normal, since I was away from what was familiar for 2 months. Crazy to think that 2 months filled with tears, laughter, screams, bugs, bug bits, iced wawees, Zion pad Thai, feed back, songtauws, thai friends, prayer walks, ministry, and journaling seems like a dream. Although our team leaders went over...

It’s ok not to be ok.

So, we’ve been home for a little over a week and it’s finally starting to hit me that this chapter of my life is over. I’m not in Thailand anymore; in fact I’m roughly 8,600 miles away from my prior home in Chiang Mai.  The weeks leading up to us leaving, we talked a lot about the dreaded “re-entry.” We talked about reverse culture shock, feelings we might have, and just coming home in general. After hearing the whole spiel, I wasn’t happy about it, but I knew I could handle it. I was ready to be uncomfortable in my once comfortable American...

One Final Post: The End of a Season

Since I've gotten home I have tried to put words to this past summer, but it has been an overwhelming task. I have realized that I will never be able to fully give justice to the experience through an email. Instead, I would like to share some of the things I have learned with you and rest in the fact that this experience will be carried with me for the rest of my life.   I know I have not shared very much about how my team spent our time the past two months, so I will give you a run-down of a normal day. From 8am-10am, we had individual quiet time with Jesus. This is a practice I...
