Selfless faith.

Yahweh. Papa. God. Abba. Savior. Creator. Love. Protector. Lord. Almighty. Most High. King. Holy. Heavenly Father. I am.

As I read through the Old Testament, I can’t help but be astounded by the selfless faith that filled the men and women who put their hope in God. Before the veil was torn, these God-fearing people approached the throne boldly. Some made requests, some called God out on His promises; every encounter rolled out in a manner that was both humble and honorable.

I can’t help but admire Daniel for agreeing to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams; without any knowledge of the dreams he approached God and praised Him for who He is. He then said, thank you God for instilling those same things inside of me, you have made known to us the dream of the king. (Daniel 2)

I can’t even begin to understand Abraham’s love for God when he was willing to give up his son Isaac upon God’s request. He took Isaac up to the mountains, built and altar and actually had a knife in his hand ready to slay his son when an angel called out and said “Don’t lay a hand on your son, do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” (Genesis 22)

I can’t imagine Moses and his selfless faith as he handed over the Isrealites and trusted God would equip someone else to take over. In Deuteronomy 31 & 32 when God explains to Moses, even after all he lead the Israelites through that they would still sin and worship false Gods, and then tell him life was coming to an end, write a song and release these people to Joshua. Then in Joshua 1 God says: Joshua, Moses is dead, now then you and all of these people cross the Jordan into the land I promised the Israelites.

I think it can be hard to imagine such faith when we aren’t willing to be put in positions that require such trust in the Lord. I look at people of the Old Testament with admiration, I desire to study what God did then, before the Holy Spirit took residency within us. I have hope that if I open my hands up to what the Lord wants for this earth, He will use me and equip me with a selfless faith.

No, seriously, Lord. Whatever You’d like me to do, I’ll do. I can’t help it. Knowing that He who’s sending me adores me more than measure and is Lord of All, I already know that I am safe.

I challenge you to ask God to soften your heart and create a willingness in you to desire more of Him. I challenge you to dig deeper and sacrifice more of yourself, in order to have selfless faithmore of Him. HE>I
