DISCLAIMER: I have been traveling for about 62 hours. I extend my apologies ahead of time if my thoughts are not coherent…
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9
Grace. God’s amazing grace is the only reason I am functioning currently. I may be a bit delirious at the moment, but I am happy to report that I am well…happy. However, it would be impossible not to smile in Thailand, after all it is “The Land of Smiles.” In the last 24+ hours we have been here, they have shown us their joyful character and incredible hospitality. They are constantly smiling and waving and holding up peace signs at us (and taking the occasional picture…). It would be an understatement to say we stick out in their culture as white people. Their fascination with us is fascinating to me. I have never experienced this kind of attention or love from a culture.
But I have experienced a greater love that most the Thai do not know (at least yet!) The love of our God has covered us throughout the entire trip, from our training camp in Georgia to our 13-hour flight from Detroit to Tokyo (and you know, all the other traveling). Even though all the traveling has been trying at times God has held us through it all, which only strengthens my faith in Him and our mission here. I cannot wait to share the love of God with the Thai people, especially the women in the red light district, because while Thailand is truly “The Land of Smiles” its not hard to see that those smiles can sometimes mask the pain that lies deep within. The thing is I know that God can remove that pain and turn it into something beautiful, because His grace is enough.
