Let it go

Worry, anxiety, and fear are emotions that no one enjoys experiencing. When these feelings start consuming your thoughts, keeping you up at night, and distracting you from life happening around you something needs to change. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

I have been praying every day that God takes the burdens from me that have been weighing on my heart. As I was praying again about the same things on the three hour journey to the village God spoke to me and said, “I hear you, I have everything in my hands but you have to take your hands away and let me take them.” I saw a picture of me with my arm stretched high offering my problems to God but my hand was clutched so tightly around the problems that I was hindering God from taking them. I needed to let go.

I started declaring the things I know to be true about what God says about the things I am worried about. One of those things is raising the necessary support that I need to be leading this trip. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5:12

Another thing is the health of my team and my family at home. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

I have also struggled with anxiety about being accepted into my first choice graduate school. Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalm 55:22 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

So often we live in fear and ask God to help us but are unwilling to fully release the burdens to Him. What is keeping you from letting go of your burdens? Start declaring what you know to be true.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
