Eating Elephants

This week, we met with Mark Biddell for our one month debrief.  He bought us ice cream, and we asked him our questions.  A couple of the girls admitted feelings of burn out, to which Mark responded “You can only eat an elephant one bite at a time.”  It took everything in me not to burst into a mixture of laughter and tears.             In my conversations with God this week, I have been questioning the efficacy of my ministry here.  I know that I know that I KNOW that God sent me here for a purpose, but...

God IS.

Thursday was a really tough day! I felt empty and just out of it on our prayer walk to Bangla Road during the day so i knew that ministry that night was going to be so difficult for me. However, when we got there that evening it turned into something really great and beautiful. Very first thing that happened was prayer, we stopped and knelt on the ground before entering satans playground and just prayed for encouragement. As we prayed a 12 year old girl selling an arm full of flowers names Cola walked up to us and said, "Phra Yesu" which means Jesus. She told...

Cinder Block Cages

Standing so sure and certain, it’s hard to discern the pain hemmed beneath their beautiful smiles.  Their hearts in cages- they dwell inside all alone.  Quarter notes dangle from their rib cages- songs yet to be heard.  No one witnesses the tears they hide inside Smirnoff bottles and hotel room pillows.  I long to undo years of hurt, but I am powerless against the hundreds of cinder blocks- each one night stand, each vacant promise, and each empty bottle.    ...

“No no you dont understand..”

On Valentines Day my team and walked the streets of Bangla Rd. handing out valentines we had made for the girls we had gotten to know over the last couple of weeks. My first stop of the night was to give Ale her Valentine. As she saw me approach a smile spread across her face and she yells “A lek A lek” as she comes to give me a hug. Since this was our first stop of the night we didn’t have any heart stickers yet. Ale does the honors of making sure we don’t leave with out the Valentine spirit. She walks me to the exit and right before I leave she takes a pin...

Banglafied Bloated Wind Bags

Trying to define why I've been struggling with this ministry (by ministry, I mean going out every night and attempting to let the Thai girls know they have other options besides prostitution to provide for their fam's.)    When we go out at night I don't have this "tearing down the gates of hell Braveheart" kinda feeling, but more of an "ugh" feeling (not the boots) Aye, here's the rub with Bangla Road This place=such a concentrated section of humanity at it's worst. It's like taking every...

Our lives in Thailand

First of all, thank you all for praying for me with the whole driving deal. It has been going very well so far. God really cleared the big scary hill the first time I had to go over it, and it's hasn't been to bad since. So thanks for all the prayers for that. 🙂 So let me describe a typical week of ours to you: right now we are the only team here, so our schedule has changed some. We are split into two teams of four, and only one team goes out onto Bangla per night. The other teams have been interceding at the Starbucks at the end of the road. We also decided to take Wednesday...
