That’s Where Love Is Found

When there is a language barrier between you and the Burmese worker trying to ask you for help, but the love of Christ takes over and makes actions speak louder than a thousand words ever could. That’s where love is found. When you are given just a few minutes to talk to the street vendors, but those few minutes are more precious to them than you could imagine. Because for once they are being treated like human beings and not being rudely pushed aside. That’s where love is found. When you are in a bar that seems to be surrounded in absolute darkness, but you get the chance to...

God smiles through Chef Boyardee

We are half way through our journey here in the beautiful Phuket, Thailand. Since we have been here a few weeks there are a few things that become a bit monotonous, as does anything, as it becomes daily life.                Phrases like “what a surprise chicken and rice!” and “because it’s friggin’ Thailand” have become a part of our daily conversations in response to meals, cold showers, morning meetings and a lack of...

Bangla Boys

I'd been praying that God would break my heart for Bangla. I'm in love with the girls down there but it just wasn't enough. I wanted to see people how God sees them and share in the pain with Him. My God definitely answered my prayer as painful as it was. He has completely broken me for the men on Bangla. I've been blessed enough to talk to one of them in depth, but I want more. Last night my teammate encountered a man that shared a story of death, pain, and loneliness with her. Lord, these men are your sons and they are so...

Love in the Midst of Being Degraded

When I first signed up for this trip I was SO angry at men who could buy a girl for their own satisfaction. How could you ever be so messed up that you could ever believe that it was okay to degrade a girl in such a way?!  How could you ever treat a human being as a commodity bought for your own enjoyment?! But I knew this anger would greatly affect my ministry in such a negative way and I had to do something about it. So I started to pray. I prayed daily that he would let me see these men from His eyes, not my own. Let me see them as His creation also. And He did. I arrived on Bangla...

Hold my purse, God’s calling.

If you know anything about me, you know I'm not too big on going outside my comfort zone. So naturally, the other night God basically shoved me out of what was comfortable and into one of the coolest experiences of my life.      It was Thursday night and we were coming to an end as my team headed into our last bar for the night. We sat down and my teammates started talking to a bar girl right away. I was off to the side just looking around the bar when my eyes landed on a middle age white man sitting alone at the bar. Between looking at the...

God works through the sweat, the mud and even the snails

It wouldn’t be a mission trip if you didn’t get your hands dirty, right? Well I think some of us might have forgotten that a little bit. We came on this trip thinking we would be going out during the night to make relationships with bar girls and then teaching English and baking cookies during the day…boy were we wrong.               Being the type of girl that I am and the way that I was raised I have no problem getting my hands dirty while I am doing some hard...
