Fires are Starting

Monday: Jesus is real.  Fo’ serious. Okay… so crazy things happened tonight on Bangla.  I will try to summarize. So, I’ve been struggling with feeling led to any of the bars or any conversations… like, “hello God, I came and You promised that You’d lead me… what’s up? BUT tonight two beautiful women of Jesus on my team came and spoke over me, telling me that God was directing my steps tonight, that His grace would follow, and that I already knew where I should go.  Uh…… awesome.  So, in the middle of...

Lessons from a Lamppost

Each week we do different chores around the house. This week a couple of girls and I had the task of scraping paint off of these lamp posts that will eventually end up at the land (the addition of SHE that will be done in about 6 months). Right now however, the job is to scrape the paint off, sand the posts down, and then finally repaint them. This is not a quick job. We’re talking a few hours wasn’t enough to finish just getting the paint off of one of them. Well, Monday afternoon we had been at it for a few hours and there was so much work ahead of us still. There were points...

day to day.

Hello from Thailand! I just want to give everyone an idea of what our team does on a regular basis so you can be in prayer for us. We are a team of 25, and we’re split into two groups for ministry. Basically, team 1 goes out to Koh Sirey in the afternoon to do manual labor for about 3 hours. SHE, the organization we are working with, is building an entirely new facility. It consists of a few houses for YWAM students and other students participating in helping on Bangla. There will be a pool, a coffee house, and a daycare as well. All of this is expected to be done in the next...

Thailand, or the Mulan Soundtrack?

You’re the saddest bunch I ever met But you can bet Before we're through Mister, I'll make a man out of you   So being here in Thailand it has felt like we are living this exact theme. We came to training camp these weak individuals not at all ready for the battle that lay before us. I am sure that God was thinking that exact first verse at times—that we were in fact just sad, it was sad that we could think we were ready for this. But he promised that he would not send us into the heat of the battle unprepared—he promised that essentially he would...

How can you explain that?

I’ve put off writing this blog for a long time.  I just didn’t know what to say or how to say it. I couldn’t find the words to describe what it is like being on Bangla road.   How can you describe being on a short stretch of road that is home to over 250 bars and 1,500 women who regularly sell themselves for money? And how do you explain the feeling of constantly having to say “mai ow kah” (no thank you) as flyers for “ping pong shows” (live sex shows) are repeatedly shoved in your face? Or what about the sadness you feel when you see...

Spirit On the Mount

God speaks to me through nature. Since I have known Him, it has always been that way. One of the things that has been really difficult for me to grasp since being here is to look around at all of the BEAUTIFUL scenery and try to understand how all of these people can go on, not knowing who God is. On Tuesday, we got to pray over one of the shrines, here are some pictures of the nature surrounding this shrine. On the left is on our way to the shrine, on the right is what the shrine overlooks.   To be Thai is to be Buddhist. That is a saying that is pretty common here. I knew that...
