For Sale

Sitting in a bar Wednesday night, drinking coffee, and talking to one of my new beautiful Thai friends, I noticed the two cutest little girls sitting off to the side. They were talking and laughing as two older girls braided their hair. They couldn't have been more than 5 years old, so I assumed they were either daughters or sisters of one of the bar girls. I asked my friend who they were, and her response completely took me off guard.  "They're for buying." I couldn't have heard her right. As the older girls took them over to the mirror and started fixing their...

Jesus Bring the Rain

There was the most incredible rainstorm early this morning!! We have had some intense rain here, but never like this! As I listened to it and watched the lightning from my bed, I couldn’t help but feel God’s power in the storm. I have never experienced a rainstorm so powerful! I couldn’t see 5 feet out the window! I seriously thought Christ was returning to Earth!! It was AMAZING!!    “You heavens above, raindown my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the...

God sure is a GREAT husband

“I declare that this place is HOLY- that God WON this place when He died. That Jesus triumphs over Satan even in what seems like the darkest of places”   Last night, these are the words that continuously spewed out of my mouth—loudly, on Bangla road. More than ever, the darkness was obvious and I, like others, had a difficult time with seeing lust.   At one of the first bars we stopped at last night, a movie with Adrien Brody appeared on the screen. I LOVE film, so of course, I watched…only to see a full sex scene with him and an alien, an evil alien. What...

Are you willing to obey?

Hmm, this week began interestingly – at least where bar ministry is concerned.  For the rest of the time I was left dealing with my stuffy nose and pestering cough…the joys of traveling internationally (at least for me).  Monday night taught me a lot about being willing to obey God, even when it doesn't make sense. I will paint the picture: My team of 4 had prayed over where we felt called to go that night, and didn't really get any specific bar names.  Well, not to be dismayed we "dragged" some names out and decided to go there.  However,...

Black Sheep

"Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb, its fleece was white as snow." With a name like Mary, I have had songs, rhymes and verses quoted to me my whole life. Like other typical nursery rhymes this one sounds idyllic: The little lamb merrily trotting along down the lane after his owner. And people have bought into that picture. I grew up on a farm, I should know. Often I have been asked hopefully "do you raise sheep?" Are you kidding me? No! We have some goats. Goats take care of themselves and the rest of their...

All You Need is Love

What do you tell a beautiful woman that sells herself every night to support herself, and many times her family back home? How do you react to the men who buy them? How do you treat children living in slavery? How do you look at so much darkness and not run away?   These were just a few of the questions I had going into bar minsitry this week. The only answer I have is to love. Love them because Christ loves them. Love them because my sin looks exactly like  their sin to the God who hates all sin. Love because it is what we all are called to do. Because it could be you, whether...
