Done Not Listening

I'm done not listening. This morning two of my teammates and I embarked on our morning prayer walk through the Red Light District. As we walked I began to pray that I would live in the Spirit today, and I asked God to lead, direct, and speak to me. As we were walking we passed a bar where a few friends of ours work; recently we have been having problems with some girls not wanting us there. The bar was empty and closed and no one was really around. Immediately, I knew I had to pray over the bar. I asked my teammates, we crossed the street and sat at a table outside. Our team leader;...

Thailand Actually

Between the pictures of our fun experiences on Facebook and our blog posts containing specific events or thoughts, our team (or myself at least) has received a lot of “So what are you actually doing there?” So here's what a day as Team Thailand looks like: (many combinations of activities, ministries and teammates every day) Zion Cafe- This is the cafe which we live above, and is owned by Emmi, the director of our ministries and host. We help the Thai girls that work here full-time with delivering orders, busing tables and washing dishes. Our purpose in the cafe is really to...

What if missions didn’t suck?

I have realized that deciding to do long term missions is not a decision to have a miserable life, never have fun, and not do anything that you want ever again. It is laughable to even have that opinion but I think that many people think that if they decide to be a missionary they will be sacrificing themselves so that others can hear the Gospel and they will no longer do anything for themselves again. I have seen time and time again people that have families, take their kids to school, go out to eat, and go to movies all while on the mission field. Life will be different if you choose to...

I see you

To the toddler that runs around the bars playing with last night’s garbage like toys. Your mother is a prostitute. It is not your fault. You spend your days in the arms of your mother’s friends who are prostitutes while your mom is working at the bar. I see you. To the working girl who is all dressed up with your hair and makeup done. You are playing a game of pool with another customer. You smile and laugh at the customer’s jokes; you flirt and act like you are having the time of your life. You put on an act and leave the bar holding the hand of that man who will...

Let it go

Worry, anxiety, and fear are emotions that no one enjoys experiencing. When these feelings start consuming your thoughts, keeping you up at night, and distracting you from life happening around you something needs to change. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 I have been praying every day that God takes the burdens from me that have been weighing on my heart. As I was praying again about the same things on the three hour journey to the village God spoke to me and said, “I hear you, I have everything in my hands but you...

Do something

I am reading a book called Terrify No More it is about an organization that does a lot of work in Southeast Asia to free people from modern day slavery. This includes men and women who are trapped in work camps working to pay off a debt that will never go away, children who work in unimaginable conditions rolling cigarettes, and girls who are tricked or coerced into working in brothels. The challenge the people in this organization are up against seems to be too hard with too many obstacles, yet they press on to work for freedom and to bring justice to the many that have no hope. One...
