Daring to Declare

Last week was a hard week for me.  At the beginning I didn’t feel like I could feel God. I didn’t feel like I could see what He was doing through me. At Monday worship, I broke down in tears. I wanted more than anything to feel God. Satan began to attack my mind. I started believing what He was telling me.

Amber felt like we needed to start praying for the impossible.

The next day, I went out with my teammate, Mrriah, to prayer walk. I didn’t really want to do ministry that day.  As we walked down the road, we decided that we were going to make declarations over each Soi (the roads that hold the bars). We declared in Jesus Christ name that:

  • The glass boxes that hang over Bangla just out of reach would be empty.
  • That the music in the bars would not to be so loud, so that we could speak to the girls instead of yelling.
  • That the music would be glorifying to God.
  • That the name of Jesus Christ would come up in Soi Tiger 2, the scariest bar on Bangla (to us).
  • We declared that no girls would be dancing on the poles in any bar.
  • We declared that the lady boys in Soi Crocodile would not find their beauty in how they look but in who they are. That God created them just as they are.

As we walked towards Bangla that night, we did not hear music before seeing the road. The music’s volume was turned down, and the usual graphic songs about girls’ bodies were exchanged for songs about their beauty. There wasn’t a SINGLE girl dancing on the poles!! Two out of three of the glass boxes were empty ALL night. Amber got to have a conversation with an atheist that went pretty well in Soi Tiger 2.  Amber and I got to go talk to Polly, our lady boy friend, in Soi Crocodile and tell her how beautiful she is inside and out.  We also got to share that we love her and value her friendship. GOD IS SO GOOD!!!

Nothing that was done on Bangla Road was because of anything my team did. In no way can we take credit for it. It is pretty cool to stand back and watch God at work. God uses the broken and hurting. God uses those who don’t think they have anything to give. God uses ordinary people. He used each one of us that night. We had great conversations with girls. We were able to look in the eyes of girls and tell them they are beautiful and loved. To treat girls like a person and not an object.

    You rule throughout all generations.
The Lord always keeps his promises;
    he is gracious in all he does.”
