So there are currently seven Thai women working at the SHE center. A number of them have children, and the ones that are three and under are taken care of at the center during the week day. The older ones attend school just down the road. Of course, they are the cause of many smiles among all of us here. I think it's awesome that the women working here can have their children so close, and of course that we can enjoy having munchkins around.
One more tragedy that many of the women still working in Patong have to deal with is that their children are often hundreds or thousands of kilometers away. Many of the women are mothers, and when they leave their homes to come earn money, they generally leave their children behind with their families in the north or where ever. When we are first meeting the women, we often ask if they have any children, and it is just so sad to hear that they haven't seen their three-year-old daughter for months and months. This is all the more reason for them to come work at SHE, because if they do, their children can come and live with them where they can see each other every day. Please pray that we would be able to bring these mothers and children together at SHE!
