No Drought Here

My team is extremely attracted to the rain. Here in Thailand, although it is opposite of the rainy season, it has rained everyday! GOD YOUR CRAZY! We all have our own reasons for loving it, for some of us its a reminder of faithfulness, for some its a sign of Gods power, some of us just really love it, and for me its a clensing refreshing thing. Everytime in my life when i have been broken, hurt, and feeling dirty– God has sent a gentle or torrential down pour my way for me to dance in! I remember one specific time in my life when i was the most hurt i have ever been. I was left...

Wrecking my privileged life

I’m a people watcher, I love to see people’s reactions to things, study the way they carry themselves, how they look at/ act around certain people, basically get to know them by their actions. I have seen so many things and different people in Thailand. Just walking around the mall and sitting in Starbucks I have seen couples, married or not, angry people, people laughing, crying, presh lil’ tinnies, men in speedos (yuck!) Girls who are self-conscious and girls who look like they have all the confidence in the world, men checking out women, people in really nice clothes,...

My Own Actions Amount To Nothing

I keep forgetting the power behind a smile and behind just telling someone that they are beautiful. We are doing so many great things here in Thailand and I know that i am apart of them but for me personally I have felt a little bit discouraged. I have met so many girls in the bars every week and i have asked many of them to hangout with me during the day and for some reason i keep hitting brick walls. I love them all so very much and its hard because i see my teammates going on dates and setting up times for them to come back to our house and get a job at S.H.E. but none of my friends...

Diva Cups and Plastic Ball Pits

Two suggestions for living in community: never sweat the small things, and always rejoice in the smallest gestures.  Living in community can feel like living in one of those old McDonald’s kiddy ball pits.  You’re bound to get smacked by a few errant balls; there are sticky smelly things everywhere- diapers, a forgotten pacifier… Amber’s diva cup… all submerged in a sea of color.  Yet, in spite of the occasional sting and stench, there is a joy that cannot be contested. ...

Freak Show

Thailand performs more sex change operations than any other country in the world.   Night after night on Bangla Road we walk into Soi Crocodile—the street dedicated to ladyboys (men who have changed their gender to female).   Usually we have to push our way through the crowd to get to the bars because there is always four or five ladyboys outside the street, dressed in elaborately decorated and revealing feather dresses that make them close to 8 feet tall. They are walking around all of the by-standing tourists, asking for 100 baht to take a picture with them.   And...

Excuse Me Flo,What’s the Soup du Jour?

I've met more people here that don't like Dumb+Dumber than I have in my whole life…seriously, it's a phenomenon. I'll make a reference+I either get nothing, or someone slams the movie- I'm shocked…and have taken this to heart as further proof that me+Asia are like cats+dogs,World Racers+hygiene,Whitney Houston(RIP)+Bobby Brown, Crocodile Hunter+sting rays(honorable mention because someone got stung by a sting ray here last week, couldn't resist while on the RIP role) Aspects where I'm feeling Asian persuasion: Thai tea stand I visit daily(50...
