Startled by Joy

"For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning."- Psalm 30:5   Growing up in a quiet Christian family I never thought I would witness this. I never thought that I would see bar tops full of pole dancers gyrating to pulsing music. I never thought I would observe a woman being approached by four men to purchase for the night. I never expected to see five and six year old boys playing connect four with scantily clad women at a bar, while their parents shot whiskey in the background. The last...

The Spirit’s Power

Back in April in my Core group (shout out : )) at school, we were asked to choose a characteristic of God that we wanted to focus on this Summer. There was a list of what God is in each book of the Bible to choose from. I chose the Spirit’s power not knowing what that would entail, but knowing that the Holy Spirit is a powerful tool that walks with us. Monday was our first night doing bar ministry as a team. We didn’t find out we were all going out until right before lunch. When I found out, I am pretty sure I did a fist pump! I was so excited! My excitement built all day...

Machetes and Prayer

Machetes and Prayer. What do these things have in common? They are used to help pave the way.   Last week was spent doing just that. SHE ministries acquired a new piece of property lately so they can move and expand their facilities. The land was really raw- overgrown grass and plants everywhere. I had the priviledge of taking the machete to the thick vines and "grass" on a small island connected to the property. We were all working to clear the way for new buildings.     Early last week we were able to go on a prayer walk down Bangla Rd clearing the...

Leave it all at the cross. <3

I don’t even know where to start…Monday night was my first night of bar ministry and it was so different than I expected it to be. The bars are everywhere; there are HUNDREDS of girls dancing on bar tops and girls soliciting men on the streets and FAMILIES with children walking around like this is completely normal. Looking at all of it, it is so easy to get this hopeless attitude and I really started to think that until we went into the second bar. I was really feeling a pull to that bar, so I told my team leader that’s where I would like to go and so we went and all...

Me…in a bar?

So, you know I am definitely not the type of person to be partying it up at a bar, so how wild is it that God would use me to minister to women working in these bars in the red light district in Thailand?  Pretty wild.  Take that as encouragement that God can use you anywhere, He can take a broken mess and makes it something beautiful so you can bring comfort to those around you.  As I stepped to the counter with the girls dancing on top of the table, I just called out God's truth on that place.  No one can hear you, so you feel the freedom to speak up, even louder...

Standing In The Gap

Have you ever heard someone talking, and they just keep talking about how dumb or ugly or wrong they are?  Often time this person is a girl, typically between the ages of 18-22.  I just happen to live with 22 girls between the ages of 18-22.          These girls are still finding themselves and finding out who they are in Christ.  So often they have been told that they are insignificant, unworthy, and unwanted.  This is NOT who Jesus says they are.  Jesus says they are worthy because they are His.  Jesus says...
