Before the rooster crows…

My God, He’s kind of a funny guy. I say that because so many times He has related His love to me in a humorous way. For instance, I was in a funk after my first time at the bars here and while sitting at a café God spoke His love to me…through a Britney Spears song. Funny stuff. And this last week was no exception.

My team and I were all treated to an authentic week of village life in Mae Ai. We stayed in homes with host moms, which was definitely a new experience. But one aspect that really stood out to me was the roosters. I had never heard a rooster crow before coming to Thailand and after this week I would be happy if I never heard one crow again.

Besides the crowing though Mae Ai was a place of pure peace. It was one of the most beautiful times I have experienced with God because my mind was free to listen to His voice.

And His voice was loud.

God helped me finally come to acknowledge a revelation in my life:

 I need to be single.

I say acknowledge because really God has been speaking this to me for quite some time and as any good human I have denied Him. Not once, not twice, but three times.

Now I say God is funny because right after this revelation was in essence “revealed” to me, I came home and I distinctly heard the crow of the rooster. In that moment I laughed as I reminded of Peter and his denial of Jesus. Three times. Before the rooster crowed (Luke 22: 31-34, Luke 22:60-62).

Maybe this doesn’t seem funny but that’s how God related to me in that moment, through something as silly as a rooster crowing, because He wanted me to remember the happy ending for Peter and for me. That despite my denial of Him He wants to and already has forgiven me. Crazy right?

He’s just funny in that way.
