Me…in a bar?

So, you know I am definitely not the type of person to be partying it up at a bar, so how wild is it that God would use me to minister to women working in these bars in the red light district in Thailand?  Pretty wild.  Take that as encouragement that God can use you anywhere, He can take a broken mess and makes it something beautiful so you can bring comfort to those around you.  As I stepped to the counter with the girls dancing on top of the table, I just called out God's truth on that place.  No one can hear you, so you feel the freedom to speak up, even louder...

Standing In The Gap

Have you ever heard someone talking, and they just keep talking about how dumb or ugly or wrong they are?  Often time this person is a girl, typically between the ages of 18-22.  I just happen to live with 22 girls between the ages of 18-22.          These girls are still finding themselves and finding out who they are in Christ.  So often they have been told that they are insignificant, unworthy, and unwanted.  This is NOT who Jesus says they are.  Jesus says they are worthy because they are His.  Jesus says...

Patience, grasshopper.

I am not a patient person. I’m a huge fan of immediate gratification and when I go to do a task, I want to get it done and get it done quickly. This rather charming quality of mine leads to a lot of frustrations for me, and has really come into play when plans change. We arrived in Phuket on Saturday morning after a 12 hour bus ride through the night. We settled into our home for the next seven weeks and began our briefing and orientation on the culture and the ministry we’ll be doing here. We were told we’d begin going out to the bars on Monday night, and I was restless...

Boasting in Weakness

Tuesday June fourteenth. It is day 4 in Phuket, Thailand. And daily I am learning to love it more and more here. Several things that I learned in the past few days: Humidity is not bad once you learn to accept wearing perpetually damp clothing. Thai food can make your insides blaze with heat that almost matches the fire of the Holy Spirit. Roundabouts go in a clockwise direction (making crossing the streets an adventure worth a blog on its own). And the amount of 7-Elevens here are only paralleled by the amount of Vespas and motorized bikes in the streets. Exploring has been a...

God is Truth, Truth Brings Freedom

Living with scores of other people, always surrounded by noise and bodies, but one in the Spirit of Christ – brought together by our Love of our Savior and Redeemer.  This is my life right now, and as crazy as it can be, it is a beautiful thing to behold. Lately, God has been impressing on my heart the idea of Truth, absolute truth.  And that is found only in communion with Christ and in the Word of God, the Sword of the Spirit.  But how little do I take hold of this magnificent gift?   How often are we told to hide away God's Word in our heart and nod our...

Partner in Prayer

We have arrived in Phuket! Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers, you'd be happy to know that we are all safe with possession of all of our bags:) It has definitely been an intense couple of days- but not in the way i expected. I would have thought that the spiritually difficulty in this trip would come from meeting girls that had not heard of Jesus's love for them…that comprehended their self-worth based on what society has told them. More and more, I realize how easy it is to determine self-worth by earthly standards. My team of 3 (me, Audrey, and Kelly Harry, who...
