a common thread

Over the past 4 days our team has been getting to know each other.  And while I’ve made many wonderful discoveries about my 7 teammates, I’ve noticed that we all feel pretty passionate about food. Here at training camp our meals have been a little different than what we’re used to. The portions have been a bit smaller than our American size portions.  We’ve had to share. We’ve been eating dishes that are served in all the different countries that teams are traveling to. (There are 5 teams leaving tomorrow to go to the nations of Kenya, Swaziland,...

The devil sent ants of fire.

The devil does all he can to distract God’s children. Attack after attack has occurred during my preparation for this trip. After arriving in Atlanta a part of me delusionally believed that those attacks would cease. I quickly discovered that that was not the case. After a wonderful worship session the other night, I grabbed my stuff and headed to the girls cabin. I was so excited to do some journaling, read my Bible, and then fall asleep peacefully. I arrive at my bunk bed. And I see ants. LOTS of ants. Kristina and I looked at them and laughed as we messed up their neat little...

This is my “bucket” — Part 1

“Dear God…. no.” It’s probably one of the shortest and most honest prayers that I’ve prayed in a long time, but I wanted to do nothing else in that moment than to do nothing. It’s easier that way, isn’t it?  I had just arrived in Georgia, hot and sticky and humid Georgia. Our first adventure as a team was to get from the airport to where we were staying for the night. As we began to leave, my first thought after struggling to put my backpack on was, “Gosh, I should have packed waaaay less!” We trekked across downtown...

This is my “bucket” — Part 2

I have been waiting my entire life for that big, Hollywood movie moment to happen in my life. The kind of moment that sweeps you off your feet and makes you fall on your face because you are so overwhelmed with the goodness of God that you just can no longer stand. While the Lord does choose to work in those ways, it’s the small moments that make up the majority of our life that become those Hollywood movie moments. This is one of those moments. Our team had just finished painting God’s vision for our trip on a canvas, a project that we were given to do with our team. Katie...

Expectations out the window!

It’s funny when you walk into the unknown still expecting things to go a certain way, and even though you’ve never done it before, your still surprised. I must say that walking into the airport to meet up with my group i really wasn’t expecting to go on a little scavenger hunt into the inner city on Atlanta to where we were spending our night. I can honestly say that i didn’t thing we were going to spend our first night with AIM walking the streets of Atlanta in the middle of the night. Nor did i think we would be praying and speaking to the...

freedom

The worship here is powerful, I feel like I am surrounded by angels when my team worships. I have felt victory in my heart through Christ Jesus for the first time… I never really understood and still don’t fully understand who God really is. But I felt something that I have been longing to feel way to long now. Everyone on my team is a blessing from God and I already feel like they have helped me grow in tremendous ways, I can honestly say that they are my family already. When I was on the bus headed to AIM head quarters I talked to a girl named Kali on my team, she looked at me and...
