The Breaking Point on Bangla

Imagine this: You see a tall older man in an orange button-up shirt with a young Thai girl entwined in his figures leaving the red light district. You see a Thai woman with her arms ending a couple inches below her elbows, a partial foot, and a leg ending at the knee trying to sell gum to those walking down the road. Imagine the man watching her making sure she does her job and doesn’t leave ‘til her items are gone. You see bar girls dancing on poles on the bar with numerous lustful men watching. You see an empty bar fill with grey haired men after you sit down to talk with the...

Unclean.

As you know, doing bar ministry on Bangla road is the biggest chunk of our ministry here. Therefore, our team of 7 is split into 2 groups that go to Bangla every other night with the exception of Wednesday nights which we have off. The nights that we don’t go Bangla we stay back and pray and intercede for the team that is on Bangla. My team is Autumn, Radha and myself. The other night as were back praying for Kristen, Allison, Jalin and Gloriel, I was asking the Lord to speak to me. Almost immediately, I was reminded of Passion conference in Atlanta this past January. On the first...

interceding…say what?!

A few years ago I started to hear the word ‘interceding’ a lot, but I wasn’t quite sure what it was.  After a little while I decided that this intercession stuff was powerful and I wanted in, so I started asking about it.    What I found is this: intercession is when you pray for someone else and ask Holy Spirit to come in on their behalf.  Thankfully I asked what it was because intercession really is powerful and it is essential for fruitful ministry. Without intercession, our ministry here in Thailand would not be near as effective as it...

Interceding for Bangla Road

Bangla Road is such a tough place to walk down on. All up and down the streets you deal with such powerful forces from the enemy with intoxication, lust, sexual immorality, you name it, its there. Bangla Street is where the lost and broken come to specifically fill their voids. I heard a quote once that said, “Every man that knocks on the door of a brothel is searching for God”.   It is so easy to build a hatred for the men going to places for prostitution but remember that they too are captives to lust and are in bondage also. The second time to Bangla Road, I was...

Hope, intercession and living water.

It’s pouring out. That shouldn’t be a surprise, considering it’s rainy season and often times we run to close the windows so our stuff doesn’t get soaked. But it’s really raining tonight and it’s not stopping. At training camp, many people spoke life into our team saying “God is going to use you to harvest fruits.” Well, you can’t harvest fruit that hasn’t been watered, right? It’s funny how God keeps speaking to me about water, mostly on Bangla Road, where a huge part of our ministry takes place. Last night He was...

Home-Rule

Home is where the heart is, my heart is with these girls! “I need to journal! Guys I seriously, need to blog.” I’ve been saying this to my team for a few days now. I’m not sure why I’ve been struggling to post a few words about what’s going on with my life here. It certainly isn’t because I’m too busy but maybe it’s because I haven’t processed all the change that’s occurred over the past two weeks. Africa. Minnesota. Georgia. Thailand. Different showers, different beds, different food. In the midst of that, it’s...
