promising conversations

The past few weeks have been crazy, with stuff going on at home and God pushing me in ways he has never pushed me. I was beginning to feel discouraged, but God showed up big time in the past few days.  First was through a 12 year old girl, Cola “like Coca-Cola”, My Bangla group (Austen, Mrriah, Alexa, and I) were praying when we look up and see a child, arm full of flowers, and all she says is Jesus, in Thai, she then explains how God told her to come talk to us, and that she saw him in the middle of our prayer circle, and then points to her hands and feet where his scars...

A King, a Whore, a Drunk, and a Dealer

“I come to Your Word because I need to hear a word from You.” My pastor from back home said this last semester about reading the Bible. For many people today, the Bible is just another holy book—much like the Qur’an, Bhagavad-Gita, or Book of Mormon. Or an old book collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. Or simply just a collection of fables and fairy tales with a good moral at the end.   And I understand that. Why in the world would someone believe that a book well over 2,000 years old would have any relevance to the ears and life of a 21 centurion and what makes...

God IS.

Thursday was a really tough day! I felt empty and just out of it on our prayer walk to Bangla Road during the day so i knew that ministry that night was going to be so difficult for me. However, when we got there that evening it turned into something really great and beautiful. Very first thing that happened was prayer, we stopped and knelt on the ground before entering satans playground and just prayed for encouragement. As we prayed a 12 year old girl selling an arm full of flowers names Cola walked up to us and said, "Phra Yesu" which means Jesus. She told...

Eating Elephants

This week, we met with Mark Biddell for our one month debrief.  He bought us ice cream, and we asked him our questions.  A couple of the girls admitted feelings of burn out, to which Mark responded “You can only eat an elephant one bite at a time.”  It took everything in me not to burst into a mixture of laughter and tears.             In my conversations with God this week, I have been questioning the efficacy of my ministry here.  I know that I know that I KNOW that God sent me here for a purpose, but...

Let the Little Children Come

So there are currently seven Thai women working at the SHE center. A number of them have children, and the ones that are three and under are taken care of at the center during the week day. The older ones attend school just down the road. Of course, they are the cause of many smiles among all of us here. I think it's awesome that the women working here can have their children so close, and of course that we can enjoy having munchkins around. One more tragedy that many of the women still working in Patong have to deal with is that their children are often hundreds or thousands of...

Your Never Giving Up On Me

There have been plenty times in my life, and especially now when I question Gods love for me. Walking through Bangla you have to honestly question yourself, “Okay, Do I really believe this never ending, overflowing love that you say you have Jesus?” Sometimes I try imagining Gods love and I compare him to love i've received in my past. This only gets me in trouble because I think I innocently forget that God's love will be far better than any boyfriend, any father, or friend's love that I have ever experienced. He is constantly reminding and showing me that no...
