And I always thought I had 20/20

This is my first blog post. Three weeks in? I will definitely be receiving some "feedback" about that in debrief, given that the number one "don't" for blogging was to not blog. I know our team has shared some encouraging and challenging encounters on Bangla Road already. I am so just excited to see what else He is going to do through the gift of time that we have left here.  I was recently spending time with the Lord and I heard Him say distinctively, "You are far too nearsighted." I was like…thanks? I honestly wasn't sure...

Beautiful Girl

All beautiful you are my darling, there is no flaw in you. Song of Songs 4:7   We make eye contact, and I smile at her. I ask her to play a bar game (connect four) and she “happily” plops down on the stool next to me. Before the first chip is thrown into its little blue cage, she touches the ends of my hair and says “beautiful.” She points to my friends nose and says “beautiful” and points to her nose and shakes her head as her fake smile transforms itself into a dissatisfied frown. It breaks my heart, and I quickly shake my head no and tell...

God is ABLE! and here in Phuket

Hello pals:) Here's what we're up to:      Construction! -> We've been mostly painting on primer, digging to secure an island, and cementing. Yes, it DOES sound like a bunch of random things put together, but its all to help in preparation for a new building for the organization we're partnering with. I have recently been realizing even more how much joy I get from manual labor and construction. It allows for us to work in unity and glorify God. He has made our bodies able! By putting those bodies to work, we are praising Him with what He has given...

Hate what is evil, cling to what’s good

I wish i had wit tonight as I sit and write this. I may not have wit, but I do have a little bit of truth. This week we started bar ministry and it's been beautiful and broken. For all of you young life leaders out there, it's like doing contact work on crack. From the moment we walk onto Bangla Rd you are constantly assaulted by sights and sounds people asking you to come watch strip shows and buy stuff every two feet. Listening to God's voice can be quite the task in a place like that. As we walk the roads and pray and as we sit in the bars and talk, I am struck by one...

Suffocating

Lord,      Pour out Your Spirit. Let it rain until the bars are flooded with Your presence. Until the darkness that's suffocating us right now is eliminated by Your light and your love. Drown every lie that tries to creep into the minds of the girls dancing and the men watching. Let your all consuming fire fall down. You are calling us to call these people out of the ashes of their broken lives. We walk in victory tonight and we speak with authority. We can dance down these streets tonight with rejoicing because the battle is won. These bars belong to you. The hearts of...

The Spirit’s Power

Back in April in my Core group (shout out : )) at school, we were asked to choose a characteristic of God that we wanted to focus on this Summer. There was a list of what God is in each book of the Bible to choose from. I chose the Spirit’s power not knowing what that would entail, but knowing that the Holy Spirit is a powerful tool that walks with us. Monday was our first night doing bar ministry as a team. We didn’t find out we were all going out until right before lunch. When I found out, I am pretty sure I did a fist pump! I was so excited! My excitement built all day...
