So it begins!

So here it is people….my first blog about this Pilgrimage I'm on. So I was greatly surprised that at the arrival to the airport, we were given a clue with $25, and were told to get our team to this address. It reminded me of Amazing Race that show. So after walking what seemed like miles with all of our stuff, which consisted of a 55-pound pack, a 30-pound book bag, and probably a 10-pound messenger bag, I was so exhausted. The address lead us to a homeless shelter in downtown Atlanta…yet another surprise. We were told to drop our bags and head upstairs, where we...

Real Life Update: Attention Supporters and Families of Participants!

We are excited for the teams who will be launching on the 19th and on the field for over four months! There are five trips launching out on three continents. And we are excited for you to be able to be a partner in the development of these young adults. They will need all the encouragement and support they can receive, because there is difficulty in the process of initiation through the situations and circumstances that arise. We would like to ask that if you support a participant, whether family, friend, or supporter, that you would continue to pray for each...

Sister in Christ

         When I was about 2 or 3 three years old my mom had a miscarriage. Later we found out that it was a baby girl. Often i wonder what it would have been like to have a younger sister. Sharing things, going to the same school, possibly even looking alike. Things would have been very different growing up. My life would not be the same.       I don’t even really remember meeting Som. I just remember getting a huge hug and her telling me she thought i was beautiful. I loved walking through the door and her shouting “Pi Elizabeth,...

Deception

       Much like the beach and the cool modern shops, i can see why so many tourist are drawn to Patong, Phuket… especially Bangla Road. Over 200 hundred bars line the road. All shoved along the streets, venders and loud music make their presence known. There are around 6 Thai girls that work for each bar. Some places even hold raffles for who gets lucky enough to take a woman with them for the night. It’s hard, even as a woman to focus on the reason were here. Even in the day time, market workers try desperately for you to look at their merchandise....

Remember Nhu ::VIDEO::

I love these girls.  Right now I am living in a children’s home called Remember Nhu.  These girls are fabulous.  I am literally living with them.  I sleep in this huge room full of bunk beds. I know you will be shocked to discover that it is loud and rambunctious at times.   The girls tend to congregate around my bed at night.  We just talk and goof around.  I know…Amanda goofing around seems so unnatural.  Anyway, I joke about how they are always around my bed, but I love them and the time we get together at night to just hang...

New place. New taste.

 New place. New taste.           Unlike the rest of the world, Thailand is not known for it’s amazing coffee. You know what they all drink? Instant. I have become so reliant on coffee. I literally drink it about 2 to 3 times a day. Isn’t that horrible? The strangest part is that most of them are “3 in 1” which means it’s like 75% sugar 14% cream and 10% actual coffee. Starbucks lovers, you need to start thank God, because you are truly blessed.           And if its that’s not enough, when...
