I Do Believe In Fairies I Do I Do

February 11 2011 God is pleased when we are in His will. He rejoices when we do what He wants. But He does not need our permission and our devotion to do something. Unlike Tinkerbell, he does not need us to believe in Him for him to work “magic.” His believe-o-meter does not measure how much power he has. He can move mountains without us lowly humans getting in the way. But God is a jealous God. He delights in us. How crazy is that? That the God of this universe takes delight in what I do. In what I say. In how I treat those around me. The “bar girls” are tricked...

Hesitation from Fear

Hesitation is something that is brought about because of fear….and fear alone. Last night is was my turn to pray and intercede for the other groups out doing bar ministry. So my partner and I found our way on the beach where we decided to sit in the sand so we could focus, away from the loud music and the endless sea of people. As we were lifting up prayers of boldness and wisdom, a girl walked up behind us, who from first glance appeared to be a bar girl. She looked Thai, and was wearing a green tight tank top, and short shorts to say the least. Her demeanor was one of...

Instant Jesus

It’s funny how I don’t realize how much I like instant and want to see results until I’m not getting results and things instantly.  I also don’t realize how faced paced my life is until it slows down. For example, even a simple thing such as walking, think about it, how quickly do you walk places? For me rarely do I take my time and actually enjoy and pay attention to what is going on around me.  When I walk somewhere I’m on a mission to get from A to B fast. When I wash my clothes at home I don’t have to wait for them to dry because I have a...

Uncomfortable Chaos

Since I have committed myself to Christ, I have always said that nothing about Christianity is comfortable and it shouldn’t be. However, in the past, my discomfort came in the form of conversation with nonbelievers or being persecuted for being the way I am. I have come to realize that for these four months, I am experience discomfort physically. There is nothing comfortable about being here. There is nothing that makes you feel at home and there is at no one point that you can possibly predict what is going to come next in your day or week. The comfort that I experience when I am...

Hope in Freedom Bar

Feelings of hope finally broke through as Natalie, Shelley, and I walked into the newly remodeled Freedom Bar on Thursday night. As we entered, we were greeted with eager smiles from girls in dresses the same as ours, aka tourist dresses. For us, that was clue number one that these girls were completely new to this place and this industry in which their lives are beginning to become entangled in. Clue number two was that the girls new less English than any other person we have come across in Patong’s bar district. Clue number three came when Shelley ordered iced tea and the girls did...

Dancing in the Rain

Today I danced in the rain and my audience was the King of Heaven. I was sitting at the table eating my always reliable rice that they feed us every day, when it started to pour outside. It was a peaceful rain and I was excited because I felt like it would cool off the 90 plus temperatures we are in everyday. I was trying to enjoy my rice when Shelley, one of my team members, jumped up and said, "Lets go out in the rain!" Now here I was trying to enjoy my meal and she wanted to get drenched by the rain. At first my reaction was, "Well….let me finish eating...
